Helping Out Moku

Please read the below email passed along to us by Donise King from USA Volleyball from Angie in the Moku O Keawe Region (it's one of the two regions that make up Hawaii). If anyone is in the position to help send this first-year team to the HP Championships in Des Moines, you will be helping to make memories for these kids!

We all want the best for our membership and are inclined to help out the ones who really need the financial support.  Please take the time to read Angie Andrade-Morioka,  Moku O Keawe Region, email below. Please consider not only this one situation for Moku, but consider all the travel and trips that this region and members must make to participate and be a valuable region of the RVA/USAV family. Angie has already tapped into her local business’, but most of those on this small island, are mom and pop operations which she has reached out to before.  Some of our regions have much larger resources for helping to fund some of their projects and we are hoping that you will please consider to help out our sister region from Hawaii.

Hi Donise,  if you can help out in any way to get this message to the other regions, it would be greatly appreciated.

This  is the first time for Moku (Hilo) to send a select team to the HP Championships. Some of these kids on the team have never traveled off the island let alone to Iowa, whereas half of the team do travel with their clubs. We have 6 players going to the GJNC championships in Ohio, and they will have to fundraise for both trips.

The coaches are responsible for their own expenses and we are trying to help the 12 players only.

It's been a hard road trying to get funding. The kids are working hard on raising money, running garage sales, steak fry, silent auctions, grass volleyball tournaments etc.. I think we are spending more time hitting the pavement than the volleyball court. We need some slack and a donation of any amount would be great!! The 12 kids we selected are the best in their age group here in Hilo, Kona and Ka'u. I know how hard these kids are working raising money because they want to experience a whole different level of volleyball which perhaps will never happen again, especially from a small town in the middle of the pacific ocean. When I see them at practice they work even harder. How can we get there if we don't have the money, so they've been pushing themselves on and off the court! These kids are humble, fun & goofy all at the same time and they are amazing little athletes. They are so deserving of this opportunity to travel to this prestigious event. The total cost of travel / lodging is $23,000 from Hawaii!
